Our Team Role Overview

To join our team there are two main roles administration associate and aquarist positons, these roles deliver the highest standards of interactive Aquatic Education programs to visitors of all ages. As a member of the Irukandji team, the educator and administrators help to ensure the delivery of fun, safe, professional and educational programs with live marine animals.

Key Accountabilities – Administration Positions

  • Assisting the coordinator and manager with administrative tasks;
  • Highest level of customer Care
  • Experience and knowledge using computer systems Mac and Microsoft
  • Continually improving our impact on the environment and greening of operations
  • Maintaining organisational safety standards;
  • Strong problem solving, organisational, and leadership skills;
  • Must be creative, flexible, and enthusiastic;
  • Basic knowledge of word processing, database management, and publishing software;
  • Active demonstration of the company’s goals, values and mission.

Key Accountabilities – Marine Educational Guide/Aquarist Positions

  • Highest level of Animal and customer Care
  • Contributing to ongoing development and improvements to Irukandji
  • Creating impact for the environment and greening of operations.
  • Built a rapport with the animals using the best husbandry techniques
  • Good knowledge of our species
  • Public speaking & presentation skills
  • Pays attention to every detail & maintains immaculate conditions
  • Experience implementing and evaluating educational programs
  • Strong problem solving, organisational, and leadership skills;
  • Must be creative, flexible, and enthusiastic;
  • Active demonstration of the company’s goals, values and mission
  • Ability to work well as a team member, as well as independently

Cares for The Aquarium Animals by:

  • Animal husbandry duties including habitat cleaning, feeding and food preparation;
  • Working to maintain life support systems and habitat.
  • Maintaining a good working knowledge of marine and freshwater animals, and ecosystems;
  • Tracking and maintaining animal records and supplies.

Requirements Qualifications

  • Working towards a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, Marine Biology, Zoology, Conservation, Captive animals Cert 111 or equivalent work experience
  • Interpretive teaching experience would be beneficial; emphasis on conservation education and marine/freshwater biology;

Beneficial Qualifications

  • 1st aid certificate, Flat-water bronze medallion & Working with children’s certificate are all helpful
  • Animal care or animal husbandry experience.
  • Knowledge of marine and aquatic habitats, and conservation issues. Proven commitment to aquatic education and conservation;

Working Conditions

  • Workday often involves long hours and early mornings (including Holidays); has a flexible schedule
  • Lifting heavy objects on a daily basis – applicants must be able to safely lift 20 Kgs to chest level
  • Handling live marine invertebrates, fish and other program animals, as well as their food; exposure to may result in stings, punctures or cuts
  • Shared work space in a team environment and open concept office environment
