This study explores whether controlled electrical pulses can deter rays from baited hooks and gillnets, effectively reversing the principle of electrofishing. The research includes:
- Baited boards equipped with variable-frequency electrodes
- Measurement of avoidance behaviour and muscle twitch responses
- Optimisation of pulse parameters to maximise deterrence while minimising harm
The goal is to develop a selective, species-specific deterrent that protects rays without affecting target fisheries.
