Every Action Helps Protect Our Oceans
Our conservation programs wouldn’t be possible without the support of thousands of passionate volunteers. There are many simple ways you can help protect marine life and reduce the pressures on our oceans.
Organisations like Take 3 for the Sea, The Two Hands Project and See Red About Rubbish inspire people every day to pick up litter from beaches, parks and waterways. Even removing a single piece of plastic can save countless animals, plastic items continue to harm marine life long after the first creature ingests them, and many remain in our oceans for decades.
Another powerful way to help is by choosing sustainable seafood. Thanks to the Good Fish app by the Australian Marine Conservation Society, it’s now easier than ever to check the sustainability rating of seafood in restaurants or at the supermarket. Even if you don’t eat seafood, asking “What fish is on the menu?” encourages businesses to think responsibly and can help shift demand toward more sustainable choices.
Committed to Marine Research & Conservation
Irukandji proudly commits at least 5% of its annual profit to marine research and conservation projects. Our goal is to actively support field studies and collaborate with scientists working on critical issues such as wild population health, ocean acidification, overfishing and other environmental pressures.
We also work closely with the University of Newcastle on ocean-related research initiatives. The knowledge gained from these projects helps us better understand the challenges facing marine species and contributes to the protection of wildlife in their natural habitats.
Get Involved Today
Whether you’re hands-on with wildlife, helping behind the scenes, or caring for your local coastline, your efforts create lasting change for marine life across Australia. Together, we can make waves for a healthier ocean.
Make a Real Impact in Marine Conservation
There are many ways to support the work of Irukandji and Sea Shelter. Whether you want to volunteer, donate, learn or take action in your local community, every effort contributes to healthier oceans and safer habitats for marine wildlife.
Volunteer On-Site
Support our team by helping care for sharks, rays, turtles and fish, assisting with guest education, or working behind the scenes to keep our facilities running smoothly.
Join the Marine Life Rescue Team
Become part of the response crew that helps injured marine animals get the urgent care they need. Every rescue begins with passionate people willing to step in.
Vet & Vet Nursing Experience
If you’re studying veterinary science or animal care, you can gain hands-on experience with marine wildlife by assisting our attending vet with examinations and rehabilitation work.
Donate or Sponsor
Your financial support directly funds rescues, medical treatment, rehabilitation supplies and the development of the future Sea Shelter Hospital. Every contribution helps save lives.
Join a Beach Clean-Up
Help us keep local coastlines healthy by removing marine debris. By uploading your clean-up data to the Tangaroa Blue Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database, you assist national research into ocean pollution.
How to Upload Ocean Clean-Up Data
- Collect debris during your beach or waterway clean-up.
- Sort and record the types of items you’ve found.
- Visit the Tangaroa Blue AMDI Database.
- Select Submit Data and follow the steps to upload your findings.
Your data helps scientists and policymakers identify pollution sources and drive meaningful change.
